MANY ARE CALLED BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN

THe narrow road is not an easy road for  mortal humankind to follow.

For Christians a good time is coming when we shall 'know' in exactly the same way we are known.

At first sight and to many, Christianity seems to be mainly about duty, rules, guilt and morality, whereas its determining focus is to encourage people to develop and to then dwell for all eternity in a country that is filled with Light and Love.

Many are made happy by the the simple act of obeying rules, even if such obedience denies in them all that is Love.

What is emptiness but a space to be filled which in spite of our constant search for pleasure and desire for possessions in a desperate attempt to fill that space, we remain an empty vessel until we are filled with the Glory that is God.

When serving our neighbour let us remember that light comes only at the cost of that which produces it. Burning must come before shining. We cannot be of great use to others without cost to ourselves.

“He [Christ] died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less.” - C.S.Lewis

We will know we have increased in virtue when we realize we have increasing pleasure in virtuous deeds.

Each of us is a plant in God's garden, watered, shone upon and filled with life and all for the sake of the flower which lies at its heart.

Obedience is not the perfection in the doing but in the trying for God takes the will and the intention in the imperfect deed and makes it perfect.

God's consuming fire which burns but does not destroy.

Way, truth and life is not to be found in the Bible except that it leads to the Christ.

Warnings about the treasures of the heart does not apply just to money, it applies equally to those who in any way worship the transient, who seek the praise of men more than the praise of God: who would make a show in the world by taste, by intellect, by power, by art of any kind and so would gather golden opinions to be treasured in a storehouse full of worldly ash.

The pleasures that the Immortal, the Infinite, created in the image of the everlasting God are housed by mankind with their own fading and corrupting pleasures in the vain hope that their glory in some way rubs off and makes their own pleasures similarly good.

Revenge is a wild and easily satisfied justice.

Humanity must first ascend the hills of earthly life to reach the high country of the divine.

Forgiveness can never be indifference.

The name written on the white stone is the key to Heaven.

Aspiration is the hope of achieving something whilst ambition is a strong desire and determination to achieve the object of its desire and that journey can lead to the exclusion of all else – even God.

A man will only hear that which he wants to hear and see that which he wishes to see.

Words are sounds to be understood or misunderstood and this is entirely dependant upon the listener.

What does God want me to do as opposed to what will God do if I do so and so. Attempts to bribe God is a never ending battle of humankind.

Recorded history reveals the gradual development of life through which the Father works.

Inward sight alone can convince of spiritual truths but wonders and miracles never.

We are small Christians because we look at ourselves and not at Christ.

We are content to scramble in our own defiled lowlands instead of looking at the highest snowy pinnacles of purity where Christ resides.

God wants to make us in His own image so that we choose good and refuse evil.

God gives us room to BE but does not oppress us with His Will.

Heed not your feelings but do your duty.

Duty when offered to God is divine service and the most important part of that service is the helping of our neighbour.

A man must not choose which neighbour to love for he is to love all.

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself in Matthew 22: 39. is also to be found in Leviticus 19: 18.. “Do not seek revenge nor bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.”

To have himself, to know himself, to enjoy himself, this a man calls life, whereas if he would only forget himself then infinitely magnified would be his life in God.

Hate the sin but love the sinner. How exactly does that work? We hate sin by recognizing it for what it is, by refusing to take part in it and condemning it as contrary to God's nature. Sin is to be hated, not excused or taken lightly. We love sinners by showing them respect 1 Peter 2: 17. Praying for them 1 Timothy. 2: 1. and witnessing to them of Christ. It is a true act of love to treat someone with respect and kindness even though you do not approve of their lifestyle or sinful choices.

If you ask Jesus how you should live your life He will tell you to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your strength and with all your mind and to love others as yourself.

Many prune the abundant blooms of the Kingdom of God to make them better fit the small garden of their own understanding.

Read scripture by the Light of the Lord – that is the Light of Truth.

It was not for himself that Jesus came into the world, He came that others might come to know the Father and to see the goodness of the Father whom He Glorified.

The feeding of the five thousand was not magic – bread came from bread and fish from fish.

Be obedient to God for it is the opener of eyes.

Eternal Life is to be one with God.

It is vital that we rid ourselves of the desire for possessions. We must possess them as opposed to them possessing us. The worldly ash heap is composed of 'things.'

The next moment is as much in God's care and beyond our grasp as those a thousand years away.

A man is lord of his will and is to blame when remembering a duty and does not do it but puts it off and forgets it.

A good work done is of more consequence than all unfulfilled intentions.

Possessions tend to block up our windows and barricade our doors and prevent God from entering.

Man is nearer to God than anything else that God has made.

To love God and to love others is all that is needed for life in Heaven.

God will not force any door to enter as the door must be opened from the inside by the willing hand before He will cross the threshold.

Obedience towards God is the key to life.

God first entrusted sacred literature to the Hebrews.

That we might know God He came in Jesus and that we might go to Him Jesus went away.

The desire of the heart of man is to have oneness with the eternal.

To see and smell the scent of a flower is a far higher thing than to know all the botany of it.

To know and love Christ is an infinitely higher thing than all the theology ever written.

What is the analysis of water when compared to the babble of a tumbling stream.

To turn from and against self is to begin to be pure of heart.

The most saintly of folk when looking on the face of God will see just how bad they are.

The self is given to us that we might sacrifice it.

No ambition to be a motive for action; no wish to surpass another; no longing after the praise of men, for these are worldly desires and worthless.

The world must be to us as nothing.

When Jesus says 'Follow Me' He means to follow Him into the heart of God – out of our body and into life eternal.

We have to grow diamond clear, true as the white light of morning – a hopeless task were it not for the fact that both God and His Son offers to come and dwell in us.

What power could prevent him who sees the face of God from being joyful for universal bliss is the presence of God.

We don't love because it makes us blessed, we are blessed because we love.

As Christians we must toil up the highpeaks of Truth.

To disobey God is like the acorn trying to disobey the oak – Why? The oak is all the time in the acorn and God is all the time in us.

Our faith must be IN the loving, ruling Christ for many believe ABOUT Christ rather than IN Him.

To obey Christ is the only way we can be one with Him.

At the end of each day I must ask: “What have I done this day.” Have I been like the parable where I say: “I go,” but went not.

We have been given freewill to be good or bad and how we behave is up to us whether it be like Judas or John.

Only those who do right can think right and only those who think right can do right.

Everyone who is a follower of Jesus has His Spirit. (2 Cor. 3: 18) And we who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's Glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing Glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

God is revealed to the childlike but rarely to the keenest intellect.

Jesus Christ is the only likeness of the living God.

Christ is in us working to change us, working until the same likeness as Himself is perfected in us. Thus the Lord, the Spirit, becomes the soul of our soul.

Jesus in communion with our inmost being will change us until in every thought and deed we are like Him; unselfish; neighbourly; brotherly and full of love for God and for others.

Human beings are animals the same as any other warm blooded creature, albeit cognisant animals of a high order with an awareness of right and wrong. But for all that we are still beings of the five senses who need Christ to enable us to overcome the effects they have upon us.

When the Pharisees said 'Corban' they lied against the Truth that a man must honour his father and mother.

We must constantly labour in the worldly fields of duty.

The Lord who loves everything hates selfishness and pride which He will not have in His Kingdom.

Christ died to save us not from injustice nor from justice but to save us from being unjust.

If we do not die to ourselves and our vanities we cannot live to God.

Christ's Kingdom is one in which no man seeks to be above another.

Ambition is the dirt and ashes of this world's kingdom.

Instead of doing God's Will we request a definition and try to intellectualize His commands so that when He tells us to love our enemies we ask, “How?” and then, “All of them?” “Even those who are very wicked?” until finally His command fades into nothing amid the How, the Where and the When, questions.

The soul that loves the Truth will always know when to speak and when to be silent.
