When Spacetime ceases and God clothes His mortal creation with immortality!
Throughout the ages mankind has often felt itself to be living in dark times, and today, many of the problems we face are like never before. Global warming leading to the the onslaught of storms of increasing ferocity and uncontrollable forest fires; the melting of polar ice leading to the rise of ocean levels; genetic manipulation; eugenics; AI; a devastating asteroid impact; solar flares, plus massive air pollution and the continuing threat of a nuclear holocaust: any one of which could cause havoc with the earth's residents.
It is in the interest of the purveyors of news to report each and every story no matter how small the scale and promote them to seemingly intractable scenarios. Additionally, apocalyptic fears have grown around the supposed predictions of ancient seers. Nothing more than guesses at 'the-end-of time' date and scenario are predicted by modern so-called sages, both scientific and otherwise, to bring fear to the gullible.
But what does the Christian Bible say? In Matthew 24:22, describing world conditions prior to His second coming, Jesus said that “if that time of troubles were not cut short, no living thing could survive; but for the sake of God’s chosen it will be cut short”. This prediction of Jesus shows that God will intervene in world affairs at a time when the human race will be faced either with extinction or conditions that make life for all those alive, unbearable.
It’s crucial to note that humanity has had the capability for self-annihilation for just over 50 years since both the United States and the Soviet Union developed and stockpiled hydrogen bombs and the world has had to learn to live with “mutually assured” destruction ever since.
At that time there were only three nuclear powers, USA, Russia, UK, but by the middle of the 1960s France and China had joined the nuclear club. Today at least nine nations have nuclear warheads and the number looks set to increase with the nuclear arms race in the Middle East.
Of course, the more nuclear powers we have in the world, the more likely it is that someone will use this deadly force for evil and there are now, approximately 14,500 nuclear weapons spread between 9 nations. In fact America did use the atomic bomb twice in WW2 which could be a precursor for the future.
Ezekial 7 should be examined as inspired end time prophecy but remember that God's timing is not as ours.
The prevailing good news in all this apparent mayhem is that Christians have the assurance that God will intervene in time to save mankind from unbearable suffering or total annihilation. This prophecy could not be brought to fruition until man had the potential for self-extinction through weapons of mass destruction or climate destruction: only in the last 50 years have either of these become possible.
Why does God not intervene and bring it all to an end right NOW? It is His wish that every born and yet-to-be born member of the human race be given the opportunity to come to Him, lovingly, of their own free will: and so whatever theologians might signify to the contrary God will never bring destruction to the planet on which we live.
To achieve that will be left to mankind's greed; its warlike nature; or a natural occurrence: but it will happen and that fact we have been assured of by the Son of God in Matthew 24. Also, in Matthew 24: 36, we are told that only God knows the date when utter chaos will reign, making it that He will then have to step in and in an instant, redeem His creation. What does that mean?
Paul explains it clearly in 1.Cor 15: 53 "When this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. Then, all His chosen will put on mortality and live with God for all eternity."
That God will not Himself destroy His beloved creation is clearly stated in Genesis 8:21 "And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done."
But it will happen! When? Only God knows, so be ready.
